Leh-Delhi Jet Airways flight diverted to Jaipur due to bad weather

The flight was on its way to Kochi from Damman, Saudi Arabia, when the woman went into premature labor, causing the flight to be diverted to Mumbai. In April, a 28-weeks pregnant passenger onboard a Turkish Airlines flight went into labour shortly after the aircraft took off from Guinea capital, Conakry, for the Burkina Faso capital Among the passengers was a paramedic who, along with the flight attendants, assisted the pregnant passenger, Cicymol Jose, a source said. A nurse who was travelling to Kochi along with the crewmembers helped the passenger in delivering the baby.

The flight 9W 569 made an emergency landing in Mumbai at 9.12 am, after a woman went into labour two months before her due date and gave birth to a baby 35,000 feet above sea level. The cabin crew with her help did an emergency delivery on the flight. “The crew cut the umbilical cord and did everything to keep the mother and child comfortable”, an official said.

The mother and the baby were rushed to the Holy Spirit Hospital in Mumbai upon landing and both are reportedly stable.

The plane then resumed its onward journey to Kochi and reached its destination at 12.45 pm after a delay of 90 minutes.

A Jet spokesperson said Ms. Cicymol’s family members were informed. The crew, accompanied by a trained paramedic on board, provided medical assistance to her.

“Being the first baby to be born in-flight for the airline, Jet Airways is pleased to offer the newly born a free lifetime pass for all his travel on Jet Airways”, the airline said in a statement.
