Elon Musk: Governments better get ready for the robots

During a meeting with Governors of various states and constituencies of the United States as part of a conference organised by the National Governors Association in Rhode Island, Musk expressed concerns about developments in AI and us not doing enough about it.

“Probably in 10 years, more than a half of new vehicle production is electric in the United States”, said Musk, adding “half of all production will be EV, I think nearly all cars produced will be autonomous”.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has warned USA lawmakers about artificial intelligence tech, stating that the brakes should be put on the technology before it is too late.

‘It takes forever. That, in the past, has been bad but not something which represented a fundamental risk to the existence of civilisation’.

Those are solid words from a man once in awhile connected with cyber-libertarianism, an intensely hostile to direction belief system exemplified by any semblance of Peter Thiel, who helped to establish Paypal with Musk.

Musk urges the Government and the authorities to understand this unsuspecting technology, capable imitating and replacing human decisions and actions. In the immediate future, Earlier this year, Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla said AI could become smart and fast enough to make medical specialists like oncologists and radiologists obsolete.

Artificial intelligence sure is the creation of the human mind but with a potential to take over the civilization.

Musk added that in 20 years, owning a vehicle that doesn’t drive itself will be the equivalent of someone today owning a horse.

“Once there is awareness, people will be extremely afraid, as they should be”, Musk said.

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has a cautionary warning for America’s decision-makers: regulate and control artificial intelligence now, before it’s too late.

“Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal. The pen is mightier than the sword”, Musk warned.

The ratio of self-driving cars to human-driven ones will quickly increase and skew in favor of fully autonomous cars as we near 2037. According to Musk, the content of science fiction movies and literature like killer robots will surprise the world without knowing how to deal with them. Musk noted that there was a big difference between a 5-year timeframe and a 10-year timeframe, saying that innovation will grow exponentially.
