Father of three survives when van crushed by scrap metal

A freakish incident on an Orlando-area highway sent a man to the hospital Saturday morning.

36-year-old Jesus Armando Escobar was driving down the American Interstate 4 motorway on Saturday when a scrap metal truck driver lost control on an overpass above the motorway.

The force of the impact completely crushed the van’s roof on its driver’s side, troopers say.

Wharton lost control of the truck, hit the guardrail, and overturned the vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

“Another foot to the left and he would be dead”, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes told People magazine, referring to Escobar.

Jesus Armando Escobar was on an Orlando-area highway when there was a auto accident on the guardrail above him.

The truck driver Antonio Santiago Wharton, 33, of Kisimmee, suffered minor injuries.

“To be honest, I thought that there had been a death”, said the employee of the towing service to the media.

Local police gave the truck driver a ticket for careless driving.
