The potential player heading to the 76ers is Markelle Fultz.
Boston will get the 76ers third overall pick, where there will be a bunch of nice young players to choose from, including the possibility of either Kansas’ Josh Jackson or UCLA’s Lonzo Ball.
There’s lots of storylines to pore over between now and Thursday night.
Once the trade goes through, the 76ers would own the NBA’s No. 1 selection for the second-straight season. In exchange for surrendering their pick, the Celtics will be receiving a third overall pick, and a future first rounder. Barely three years later, he is nearly certainly going to become the No. 1 pick in the National Basketball Association draft – and if he gets to start his pro career by calling Philadelphia his new home, he will be living near his hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The deal was to be finalized Monday.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne also reports Boston could still be in dealing mode after trading the top pick in the draft.
The future first-rounder sent to Boston will either be the Los Angeles Lakers’ selection next year – if it falls between Nos.
“Even before the lottery, we have been evaluating these kids for the last few years, and we felt that they were all close”, he said of the talent level between Fultz, Ball, Jackson and Tatum. However, the Celtics will receive the lesser pick if either 2019 pick is No. 1 overall.
Fultz, the former Washington guard has been the consensus No. 1 overall pick in many mock drafts. If that happens, Boston will get either the Sacramento Kings’ or the Sixers’ No. 1 pick in 2019 – whichever one is more favorable to the Celtics.
The Washington point guard working out for the Sixers was an indication that the team is getting closer to acquiring the only flawless fit in Thursday night’s National Basketball Association draft.
In his only season with Washington, the 6-foot-5, 186-pound Fultz averaged 23.2 points and 5.9 assists.
Many times, the Bulls have said Butler is with the Bulls and they’re happy with that in a way, but they really haven’t committed to him like you think you would with a top-15 player in the league.
The Sixers, who selected Simmons first last summer, will become the second team in five years to have consecutive No. 1 picks. Butler as an addition to the team could bode well for the Celtics, who fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
