Real Madrid’s Welsh global winger Gareth Bale will start the new season under pressure after missing the end of his club’s successful last campaign with an ankle injury while players such as Marco Asensio and Isco took the chance his absence gave them to stake their claim for a regular first team place.
“Last year it bothered me, because you always try to help the team and give your best”.
“Of course as a British player I will always be linked with a move back home and it happened with [David] Beckham and other English players who came to Spain, so there is nothing new”.
Due to scrutiny over his personal income tax, Ronaldo was reported to be unhappy in Spain.
Bale was asked about his future amid constant rumors of interest from the Premier League, but he said he had “signed a long contract with Real Madrid” and was “happy” at the club.
Bale said he was fully focused on making use of Madrid’s preseason camp at UCLA to be as ready as possible for the new season, having struggled with calf muscle issues throughout his four years at Madrid. “When I returned previous year, my ankle would not let me be at 100 percent”.
“But in top football, in Europe, I don’t think Ronaldo is going to change clubs”.
The Welshman has netted 67 times in 150 appearances and has enjoyed a huge amount of success in terms of silverware in Madrid, with three Champions League titles to his name.
“Well it is going to be hard, because although he finished the season in awesome form and he is getting a little bit older every year”, he said. “Look, I only realised yesterday that [Romelu] Lukaku had joined Manchester United, so the truth is I don’t know”.
