Multiple Bomb blasts kill at least eight persons in Maiduguri

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosions, but similar attacks in the past were claimed by Boko Haram militants.

Some of them chanted slogans against relief officials, saying, “leave, we do not need your assistance”.

A spokesman for a civilian self-defense force in Maiduguri city says the bomber was being chased by local security workers on Monday morning and ran into the middle of worshippers and exploded.

The youths, armed with club and sticks, smashed one of SEMA vehicles and prevented the team from carrying out its mission.

A source at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who confirmed the incident, said only the two boys were affected in the blast.

Boko Haram has continued to deploy suicide bombers across the northeast especially in Maiduguri, where it had long perpetrated its most devastating attacks.

A witness, Malam Muhammad Grema, told NAN that the incident occurred at about 5:00 am.

It was gathered that the attackers cross the trenches in an attempt to enter the town at about 10:15 pm on Sunday.

Soldiers guarding the trenches shot the women as a result of which the explosives strapped to their bodies detonated, blowing them to pieces, the rescue coordinator added.

” It has been observed that one of the tactics employed by the terrorists is to create a scene such as fighting with each other or any other person to attract attention and cause people to gather around them before they detonate their suicide bomb”.
