Ratings for Predators - Penguins Stanley Cup Final peak in Pittsburgh

Game six of this year’s finals pulled in Nielsen preliminary 6.47 million TV viewers and a 2.1 average rating among 18-49 viewers on NBC on Sunday.

With the win, the Penguins became the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles since the Detroit Red Wings repeated in 1998.

The Penguins won the final series, four games to two. Team captain Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smyth trophy as Most Valuable Player of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs – the second time he has claimed the honor. The Penguins would later add an empty-net goal to win the game 2-0 and the series 4-2.

Crosby has also won two Art Ross trophies as the NHL’s leading point scorer, two Hart Memorial trophies for regular-season MVP and has been the league’s leading goal scorer two times, including in this season. Only teammate Evgeni Malkin had more points, with 28.

“It’s going to sting, it’s going to hurt for a while”, said Nashville defenseman P.K. Subban, who made the Predators a Cup contender when he was added in a stunning trade almost a year ago. In between, he captained the Penguins to a Stanley Cup, won a pair of Olympic gold medals and returned to a high level of play after concussion issues threatened to derail his career.

The 29-year-old also stated that even if he did return, it probably would not have been in the team’s best interests.

“I talked at the start of the season about keeping two goalies”, said Rutherford. About 400,000 fans lined streets downtown for that parade, the biggest celebration for any of the team’s five Stanley Cup championships. Not a bad way for Matt Murray to finally shed that rookie title.

Murray had three shutouts in 11 games, including the last two en route to the championship.

In the end, they both lifted the Stanley Cup.

As for the game itself, it was rather controversial.
