Adam Zagoria is saying that league sources tell him the Celtics could be loading up on draft picks to make a trade with the Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler.
With that in mind, Chicago Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler has been mentioned by some in the media as a possible target, but at this time and just as it was in February, a deal is very unlikely. After agreeing to trade the No. 1 overall pick to the 76ers for the No. 3 pick and a future first-rounder with protections, the question now is what Danny Ainge will do with that third overall pick.
According to Smith, the Bulls actually were willing to send Butler to the Sixers in a trade involving No. 3 pick.
On ESPN’s “First Take” Monday morning, Stephen A. Smith reported that the Chicago Bulls approached the 76ers about sending Jimmy Butler to Philly in exchange for the No. 3 overall pick. Butler is expected to decline his 2019-20 player option, so he can join the 2019 free-agent market.
So what would be the potential consequences of trading away Butler? Smith said that is not quite a done deal, but it is said to be the Celtics’ goal.
Butler has made three straight All-Star teams. During the six-game playoff series against the Celtics, Butler averaged 22.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
“The worst case scenario is they find themselves in a position to draft somebody like a Josh Jackson out of Kansas“.
