IIFA 2017: Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor Win Best Actors, 'Neerja' Best Film

Udta Punjab, a gritty crime drama spotlighting the huge problem of drug abuse among young people in Punjab, scooped up the Best Actor award for Shahid Kapoor and the Best Actress prize for Alia Bhatt. He was awarded for a brilliant performance in Neerja.

The Best Picture honour went to “Neerja“, based on the real life story of Neerja Bhanot, an air hostess who lost her life while trying to save others on a hijacked flight at Karachi. While Katrina Kaif is busy celebrating her birthday USA style, Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Gauri Khan and Varun Dhawan are having a gala time making memories and celebrating the wins at the awards night. Performing artist Taapsee Pannu, who assumed a crucial part in “Pink“, named the Woman of the Year.

In the Best Supporting Actor category, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher were honored for ‘Neerja” and “M.S. Dhoni: “The Untold Story” respectively, Varun Dhawan was lauded for his comic timing in “Dishoom”, and Disha Patani was encouraged with an award for her debut movie “M.S. Dhoni: “The Untold Story”. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury got the award for Best Director for his film Pink.

Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan as hosts endeavored to keep the silliness alive.

Katrina Kaif gave away the award to Shahid at the ceremony in NY, while Varun Dhawan announced Alia as the Best Actor – Female at the event, held at the Metlife Stadium. However, he couldn’t quite bag the trophy as Shahid Kapoor emerged victor for his Tommy Singh act in “Udta Punjab“.

As it is pretty well known that the event that took place in NY city was telecasted live.
