Pakistan Army with the support of Pakistan Air Force on early Sunday launched massive operation (Khyber-4) against the terrorists, hiding in the most hard hilly terrain of Rajgal Valley in Khyber Agency, Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DGISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said.
There has been a significant decrease in the crime rate in Karachi, with a 98 percent overall decrease in the incidents of terrorism, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) DG Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor told journalists on Sunday evening.
He said that a major operation was carried out Rajgal Valley along Pakistan-Afghan border on Sunday morning.
While ghafoor said that the IG has a strong network in Pakistan, however, said the military, the Islamists are strengthening their position in Afghanistan, although IG there is still not as powerful as in the middle East.
“In Pakistan, the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has shown an alliance with Daesh”.
“As many as 56 major operations including the Mastung operation and over 9,000 intelligence based operations were launched while over 1,500 joint check-posts were established across Pakistan”, he said.
Asif Ghafoor stated that military court had rejected Indian spy Kulbushan Jadhav’s first appeal.
Last month, Pakistani army chief had called for a greater border coordination and security cooperation with Afghanistan to contain the brewing threat of ISIL.
Talking about the situation on the Line of Control, he said so far 580 ceasefire violations have occurred to-date this year – the highest in any year.
About the National Census, the DG ISPR said that all the data compiled during the demographic process had been escorted to the Pakistan Bureau of Statics (PSB) where the work had begun to give it final shape.
Earlier, paramilitary Sindh Rangers Director General (DG) Maj-Gen Mohammed Saeed said that Karachi has reclaimed it status as the city of lights, which is flourishing and the citizens are no longer afraid for their lives. “All operations are conducted by Pakistani security forces”, he asserted.
“No one wants peace in Afghanistan more than Pakistan”, the DG ISPR said, adding, “We need to bring peace in our country first”. He said a considerable decline was also registered in cases of street crime and efforts were at hand to check this trend effectively. He said Pakistan believes in an open door policy with Afghanistan. We fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from.
There have been 27 major operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 817 IBOs, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said.
The ISI was not the only institute involved in the Raymond Davis affair, he said when asked to comment on the Central Intelligence Agency contractor’s book wherein he states former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Shuja Pasha orchestrated his release from jail.
“For this, the army should continue to perform its role with support of all other state institutions”.
On a question, Major General Asif Ghafoor also made it clear that Pakistan Army is not a part of any conspiracy against the government, and has no direct link with the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
