RuneScape Is Coming To Mobile, Will Be Cross-Play With PC

Both RuneScape and Old-School RuneScape will be coming to mobile, with Old-School RuneScape launching this winter and RuneScape coming after that.

Both versions of RuneScape Mobile will boast all of the same features as their desktop counterparts, along with new controls optimized for mobile devices, as well as cross-platform play.

In case you haven’t been following the game closely since its heyday in the mid-2000s, RuneScape is actually now two different games. This version still gets updates, but only if 75% of the community agrees on the proposed changes.

If you’re a fan of fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online thingamabob RuneScape (and the game has 250 million registered player accounts, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that you are), you might be interested to know that you’ll soon be able to play the game seamlessly between PC and mobile devices.

RuneScape is one of the oldest MMORPGs still in active development, and developer Jagex isn’t just keeping the lights on. There’s also Old School RuneScape, which is based on the 2007 version of the game.

“The first logical approach is to take the title to mobile because our players have grown up”. Alternatively players who prefer a mobile experience can dedicate their time on the mobile app too. RuneScape has been around for 16 years. Instead of the boom-and-bust cycle of new releases, it is possible to build up a steady audience of players that generate revenue over the years. The full RuneScape client be released in 2018.

Eddy also brought up China, the country has already adopted mobile gaming in full force and many titles support cross compatibility which Jagex finds encouraging and is hoping means Runescape does well in that region of the world.
