The $499 price of the Xbox One X makes it the most expensive current-generation console in the market, with some gamers claiming that the price is too steep. It offers an 8-core processor that clocks at 2.3 GHz. From what we can tell, it will offer more power than the PS4 Pro rival. On paper, it’s clear that the PS4 Pro is competing with the Xbox One S, rather than the Xbox One X. Consoles have historically failed at this price point, and consumers seem unwilling to accept anything over $399.
“I want people to be able to play games!”
“If you just look at the specs of what this box is, it’s in a different league than any other console that’s out there”, the Xbox boss added. He admitted there’s “no doubt” Microsoft will sell more $379 Xbox One S consoles next year than they will Xbox One Xs. “Developers out there have a pipeline that knows how to support multiple specs”, Spencer said.
Microsoft showed off dozens of games at E3, ranging from the super-slick racing simulator Forza Motorsport 7 to the rollicking, social pirate game Sea of Thieves to Anthem, an astonishing-looking sci-fi action game developed by BioWare in Edmonton, creators of the award-winning Mass Effect franchise.
So far, there are around 390 Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One, but only two original Xbox games were announced. Upcoming Xbox games, and many older games, will run smoother and look noticeably better when played on the X. We didn’t get get any hint on how numerous original Xbox games would be coming to the program, but Spencer said to Giant Bomb after the show that “It won’t be as big as Xbox 360, I’ll tell people that”.
Spencer has also confirmed that first and third-party original Xbox games would be backwards compatible.
