After it was confirmed James Hodgkinson shot Scalise and four others during a practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game, Sen. Congressman ScaliseHospital officials said Wednesday evening that Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, was still in critical condition after being shot.
“I had no idea this was going to happen”, she said during a brief address to the media Thursday afternoon, during which she was visibly upset.
“I just want y’all (reporters) to go away, and leave my neighbors in peace”, Sue said.
Sue Hodgkinson expressed her profound regret: “I’m sorry that he did this”. “I can’t wrap my head around it, okay?”

The shooter, who is known as Tom (his middle name) to his friends and family, was raised in the same IL town where he and his wife resided.
Moreland said that she thought Hodgkinson was “definitely” capable of the shooting in Virginia.

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake added that he saw a member of Scalise’s security detail return fire on the gunman for what felt like 10 minutes, even though the police officer was wounded in the leg.
